What Is Static Sift Hash?

What Is Static Sift Hash?

Static sift is dry sift hash refined with static electricity. Trichome heads cling to a charged surface, plant material and stalks fall away, and what’s left is 90%+ pure heads — full-melt quality with zero water, zero ice, zero solvents. It dabs clean like six-star bubble but keeps the dry-process terp profile. Expect to pay craft-hash money for it, and expect it to be worth it. Static sift starts life as regular dry sift  flower or trim shaken over fine screens until the trichomes fall through. Normal dry sift stalls out around 50–70% head purity because broken stalks and plant dust fall through the same holes. Static tech is the fix. Rub a charged surface over the sift and the resin heads jump to it while the contaminant stays on the screen. Same starting material, cleaner finish.

How is static sift made?

  1. Sift cold. Material is worked over 70–160 micron screens, ideally in a cold, dry room. Cold trichomes snap off clean instead of smearing.
  2. Charge the surface. The classic method is a latex glove, balloon, or DVD case rubbed to build static. Pros use grounded static plates.
  3. Lift the heads. Pass the charged surface just above the sift. Intact heads leap up and stick; heavier plant debris stays put.
  4. Repeat. Collect, re-sift, re-static. Each pass raises purity. Top-shelf static sift gets worked until it melts clear on a hot nail.

Yields are brutal — refining to 90%+ heads can throw away half the starting sift. That’s why it costs what it costs.

Static sift vs bubble hash: what’s the difference?

  • Water: Bubble hash uses ice-water agitation; static sift never touches water. No wash means no risk of waterlogged terps and no freeze-dryer step.
  • Flavour: Static sift keeps a drier, sharper, more “raw flower” terp profile. Bubble tends slightly rounder and cooler.
  • Melt: Both hit full-melt territory at the top end. A proper static sift dabs as clean as six-star bubble — our full melt guide explains the star ratings.
  • Effort: Bubble scales better. Static sift is slower, colder, fussier work, which is why fewer producers bother.

How do you smoke static sift?

  • Dab it: The move. Low temp, 315–450°F. High-purity static sift melts clean with almost no residue.
  • Bowl-top or joint: Works, but you’re burning full-melt money for a bonfire. Use regular dry sift or kief for that.
  • Press it: Static sift is elite rosin starting material — clean heads in, clean rosin out. Garbage in, garbage out cuts both ways.

How much does static sift hash cost in Canada?

  • Refined static sift (80–90% heads): $40–70/g.
  • Full-melt-grade static sift (90%+ heads): $70–120/g, small batches, sells out fast.
  • Red flag: “Static sift” at $15/g is just dry sift with a better name on the label. Purity costs yield, and yield costs money.
